RACHEL N. HALE, ATTORNEY AT LAW

JOSHUA M. HILPERT, ATTORNEY AT LAW

Local attorneys with experience you can trust.

Joshua Hilpert earned his undergraduate degree in history from the University of South Dakota, magna cum laude, in December 2006 before going on to earn a master’s degree in history and a law degree from USD in May 2010.

Before landing in Sturgis, Joshua had interned with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office in Jackson, Mississippi, and Dakota Plains Legal Services in Rapid City, South Dakota. His practice tends to concentrate on family law and criminal defense, but he has garnered experience in a broad variety of areas, including guardianships, abuse and neglect cases, landlord/tenant disputes, and general civil litigation.

In addition to his legal practice, Joshua serves the Sturgis community by volunteering his time as a board member of Action for the Betterment of the Community (ABC) and by assisting with public service projects through the Sturgis Optimist Club.

Joshua is licensed to practice in the South Dakota state and federal courts.

During his time away from work, he enjoys hiking, playing guitar, camping, and spending time with his family. He has lived in South Dakota for well over 20 years and firmly believes there is no better place to be than in the Black Hills.

Rachel earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and English, magna cum laude, from the University of West Florida in 2007. She graduated in 2010 from the University of Florida, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree with a certificate in family law while simultaneously pursuing her Master of Science in Business Management.

During law school, Rachel was selected as a teaching assistant for two first year legal writing courses: Legal Research & Writing and Appellate Advocacy. She also served as a research assistant for the University of Florida’s Center on Children and Families. Rachel volunteered with the Florida Guardian ad Litem program as an advocate for abused and neglected children, and she assisted indigent clients through a local Legal Services clinic.

Upon graduation, Rachel served as a judicial clerk and gained experience in both civil and criminal areas of law. In addition to being admitted to the state and federal courts of South Dakota, Rachel is currently licensed to practice law in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. Her practice areas include bankruptcy, estate planning, family law and transactional law. When she is not working, Rachel enjoys running and being active, reading, and spending time with her three children.
